Remembering Pádraig

by Patrick Stack

Remembering Pádraig audio

This poem was written in memory of friend and poet Pádraig McGrane when at Listowel Writers’ Week I discovered he had died a few months before. We were friends in Trinity College, Dublin in the 1970s but had lost contact over the years. Pádraig was living and working in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia where he died.
The ‘holy hour‘ refers to the legally enforced closure of all pubs between 2.30 and 3.30pm, a practice no longer in force.

The poem was short-listed for the Desmond O’Grady Competition, November 2012, and was published in my first poetry collection, The Parting (Amethyst Dragon, 2013).
